SLAMJUNK Presents: Beyondo-Beat | Henry Mena | Meaner Pencil | Liam Kirby
Time & Location
About the Event
Beyondo-Beat is Eric Biondo’s improvisational beat collective, serving distinct, and not-so-distinct sounds of Afrobeat, Funk, Soul, Mambo, Blues, and more.
Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter, guitarist, producer Henry Mena is the frontman for power pop-leaning The Henry Mena Ego Trip, a rockin' combo whose influences include the early '70s sound of Todd Rundgren as well as Cheap Trick, Guided By Voices and The Pretenders, while his solo acoustic material has been compared to the likes of the legendary Nick Drake by none other than the great Gary Lucas(Jeff Buckley, Captain Beefheart).
"One should never play cards with this character cuz he’s holding more tuneful aces than the law allows.” - Stew (acclaimed songwriter; The Negro Problem; and Tony award winner for Passing Strange).
Meaner Pencil is a singing cellist whose style is influenced by blues, post-punk, and romantic opera. She uses her songs to glorify everyday experiences and acts of kindness, but is also willing to face the darkness. She is often heard singing in the New York subway system late at night.
Liam Kirby is a songwriter who grew up in Brooklyn. His influences include Harry Nilsson, Biff Rose, and the Beatles.
